The Northwest Arkansas Chapter of ASHRAE announces the 2024 ASHRAE NWA Donald and Richard Rheem Scholarship. This scholarship program will award one (1) $10,000 scholarship to an undergraduate student pursuing Bachelor of Science in Engineering with an Interest in the Heating Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) field. This scholarship is a one-time award to the selected winner.

Program Eligibility, Guidelines, and Priorities:

  1. Applicants must be a student attending the one of the following schools:
    1. University of Arkansas – Fayetteville
    2. University of Arkansas – Fort Smith
    3. Arkansas Tech University
  2. Applicants must be pursuing a Bachelors of Science degree an Engineering discipline and have an interest in the HVAC field.
  3. Applicants must be entering their 2nd, 3rd, 4th, or 5th year of undergraduate studies.
  4. Applicant must be a registered Student Member of ASHRAE.
  5. Students should have a demonstratable interest in pursuing a career in HVAC.
  6. Notification of award will be made by July 19th, 2024. Scholarship will be paid directly to student by August 2nd, 2024 after adequate proof of enrollment is provided. If no proof of enrollment is provided by that time, the scholarship may be awarded to a runner up. 
  7. Applicants shall complete the attached application and provide one letter of recommendation. Applications must be received by July 12th, 2024 before 5:00pm for consideration. Late applications will not be accepted.

This scholarship is generously funded Annually by the Rheem Manufacturing Company. The scholarship is managed and distributed by the Northwest Arkansas Chapter of ASHRAE. Applications are reviewed by the Northwest Arkansas Chapter of ASHRAE Scholarship Committee with input from the Rheem Manufacturing Company and, when necessary, faculty input from the eligible universities.

Electronically submit the completed application to the Northwest Arkansas Chapter of ASHRAE Scholarship Committee at the e-mail addresses below. Applications must be returned by July 12th, 2024 at 5:00pm. Letters of reference should be e-mailed to the same address either from their source or scanned and included with the application. E-mail Submission Guidelines:

There will be two scholarship award ceremonies associated with this scholarship that applicants should make all reasonable efforts for which to be available: On August 2nd, a ceremony will be held at the Rheem factory in Fort Smith, AR. The funds will be distributed to the winner at this ceremony in the form of a check. On August 8th, the ASHRAE Chapter will also have a brief award ceremony as part of the regular monthly luncheon.
